Ultra-strong fibers made from a chemical called Poly(p-phenylene terephthalamide), which boast a high tensile strength-to-weight ratio and is five times stronger than steel. Often used when creating the tire’s bead, as well as the casing’s mesh. A secondary rubber/Kevlar strip is often also placed underneath the casing to provide extra puncture resistance.
